Casualty Of War The Brooch Location And Quest Details

Exploring the expansive Crater region in Vanaheim presents players with numerous optional favors that shed light on the tragic history of the realm. Among these quests, Casualty of War: The Brooch stands out as a compelling side story involving a restless spirit seeking to reclaim its missing memento. Completing this objective allows players to gather valuable experience points and unique equipment enhancements.
Starting the Casualty of War Quest
To initiate this favor, players must first gain access to The Crater by finishing the Scent of Survival questline in Vanaheim. Once in The Plains area, navigate toward the river bank near the central portion of the map to locate the ghost named Holger. Interacting with the spirit initiates the quest, as he reveals that he needs the remaining half of his precious brooch to recover his memories.
Tracking Down the Missing Brooch Half
Finding the second piece of the heirloom requires traveling toward the eastern side of The Plains. Players should navigate south of the Eastern Plains Mystic Gateway and make their way across the rocky terrain while managing environmental hazards like poisonous mists. Following the elevated path around the cliff leads directly to a secluded ledge where the second item rests.
Overcoming Egil the Oath Guard
Before claiming the item, players must defeat a mini-boss named Egil the Oath Guard who guards the cliffside area. Egil utilizes heavy melee strikes, so maintaining distance and timing parries effectively will simplify the encounter. Once the mini-boss is vanquished, the brooch half can be safely picked up near the edge of the cliff.
Rewards and Quest Completion
After picking up the second half, Holger reappears to share the final portion of his story and grant the quest rewards. Successfully finishing the favor grants Kratos and Atreus experience points along with the Crest of Desperate Heroics amulet enchantment. This valuable reward provides strategic passive bonuses that assist players in handling future endgame combat challenges.
